The Dr. Jaida J. Payne Scholarship

Awarded annually to students who have demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. Inspired by Jaida’s own journey of overcoming Transverse Myelitis to pursue her doctoral degree, this scholarship removes financial barriers for students who refuse to give up on their dreams.

  • Must have overcome significant adversity (medical, financial, social, or personal)
  • Enrolled or accepted at an accredited 2- or 4-year institution
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (exceptions considered with demonstrated growth)
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving their community
  • Essay demonstrating resilience and future goals
  • Two letters of recommendation

2023–24

Inaugural Recipient

Announced at First Annual Gala

The inaugural Dr. Jaida J. Payne Scholarship was awarded to a student whose story of perseverance through physical and financial hardship mirrored Jaida’s own journey — proving that the next generation of determined scholars is very much alive.

Second Annual Recipient

HBCU Scholar — Health Sciences

Our second scholarship was awarded to an HBCU student pursuing a degree in a health sciences field, in honor of Jaida’s dream of becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy. This recipient overcame a chronic illness diagnosis while maintaining academic excellence.
